A kaftan or caftan is a variant of the robe or tunic, and has been worn in a number of cultures around the world for thousands of years. Styles, uses, and names for the kaftan vary from culture to culture. The kaftan has also served as a symbol of royalty. Over time the kaftan has become widely popular among the masses-especially in the United States. The kaftan has been popularized from inspirational street styles to elegant and regal styles on the fashion runways. They are so versatile. They can be made of wool, cashmere, silk, or cotton, and may be worn with a sash.
It's been very hot and muggy lately-hello summer! however this particular kaftan from Free People didn't make me feel like I was suffocating. It's light-weight and breezy and works great as a bikini cover up. It has a collared neckline and split hem on both sides. It's semi-sheer and has dropped armholes. I love the bold striped design with the lemon color. It really compliments my skin tone. I decided to pair it with my white spaghetti strap jumpsuit that I purchased from All Ways You Boutique My wide brim hat and straw purse are from Target. Quick Disclaimer: The yellow ribbon was not made with this hat. I couldn't find a straw one with yellow accents. Plus I really like the style not only because of its shape but because it’s adjustable! So I simply taped a thick piece of yellow ribbon around it. It's not the best cover-up but it served it's purpose. You can purchase all of these items on my LiketoKnow.it page. This ensemble made me feel like I was about to catch a flight to Greece. I couldn't help twirling the fabric around as the wind picked up. I felt free. I definitely will purchase more kaftans this summer. What are your thoughts about them? Do you own any?
